How to get ahead in metal: Tips for young bands before the Wacken metal battle
The first thing that a young band needs, says metal veteran Topon Das, is constructive criticism — such as that dispensed at the annual Wacken Metal Battle, to be held in Ottawa March 21.
“I want to be constructive in what I’m telling people. I don’t want to just say, ‘That’s crap,’” says Das, of the internationally known Ottawa grindcore band F-ck the Facts. Das will be a judge at Saturday’s battle, which will see six local metal bands competing for the right to play at the annual Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany, July 30 to Aug. 1.
